Boyd, Carl B., Jr. and Hazel Mason Boyd : A History Of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 1792 - 1918

The Author, No Place, 1984

303pp, index, illustrated with 16 plates on glossy paper, most of which include 2 photographs, smooth green paper over boards with gilt spine title, overall very bright and clean, inside and out, with only a tiny puncture at rear gutter as noted in picture. Early explorers, surveyors and hunters traveled the narrow, tomahawk-marked Harper's Trace that led from Boonesborough through the forests and tall cane to this part of the country. Upon reaching the waters of Hinkston Creek they found a rare land formation. This unusual elevation, which they referred to as the Little Mountain, was a large mound, about 125 feet in diameter at the base and about 25 feet high, covered with trees, some of which were as large as those in the surrounding forest. This mound, which later excavations proved was a burial site for an ancient tribe of mound builders, stood at the intersection of the present Queen and Locust Streets in Mt. Sterling. It was the most striking feature of the area, and gave the town its original name of Little Mountain Town. Very scarce.. Book. Book Condition: VG. Binding: Hardcover
