Aquatint, 33 x 55.5 cms, engraved by Joseph Stadler after Joseph Farington, black and white, blank verso, folded for inclusion in a smaller work, 2.5 cm tear closed top left. Boydell, by the 1790’s a prosperous publisher and printseller, commissioned the landscape artist Joseph Farington to to preprare paintings for a History of the River Thames which was in part a celebration of Boydell’s election as Lord Mayor. The work was popular and Adams notes that versions of the plates are found on paper watermarked twenty years later.
