Anna Katrina Zinkeisen (b1901-1976). Worked as Anna Zinkeisen.Married name: Mrs Heseltine.Born Kilcreggan,Scotland, daughter of a research chemist and sister of the theatrical designer Doris Zinkeisen.
At 15,she was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy Schools,where she won bronze and silver medals.
Best known for society portraits,she also painted flowers,executed murals (including commissions for the liners Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth), made sculptures and designed book jackets and magazine covers. As a nurse in St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington during WW2,she worked in a former operating theatre,making detailed paintings of wounds for the benefit of the medical profession.In 1953,she exhibited in the Art Medicine show in London.Her book illustrations,mostly in black and white,are lively and stylish,often with fringes of shading in the manner of the later work of John Austen and other 1930's
