Bright,crisp,clean,matt,publisher's original green cloth boards/covers,with 4-colour (red,green,black and yellow) pictorial artwork by William Rainey,R.I., with black lettering,illustrated front panel and the ubiquitously dulled dragon detail illustrated spine/backstrip,rear panel with slight grubbing but plain and undecorated,corner tips minisculaly bumped,as are both head and foot of spine/ backstrip.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping, creasing - corner tips minisculely bumped and rubbed; front,lower corner with small crease,no nicks,tears,splits present,any other discoloration or imperfections commensurate with book's age.Top edges lightly toned from light dust-soiling and without noticeable foxing/spotting,fore- edges also lightly toned,aged but with very faint,and very minimal sporadic foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight, clean - text body virtually foxing-free, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - appears unread,apart from my own collation.Toned verso and recto of front and rear free endpapers respectively from respective opposing pastedowns,both hinges solid and sound without any tears,splits or cracking.UK,12mo HB,1st edn,5+9-352pp [paginated] includes contents list/table, XXV (25) chapters,6 b/w illus by William Rainey,R.I - includes frntis,a b/w Pekin region map - all called for and present, plus [unpaginated] light sporadically foxed verso of half-title with publisher's advert list of author's other titles to its reverse,foxed verso of frntis,foxed verso+recto to title page,and an illustrations list/table. Another uncommonly presentable item,this example has survived exceptionally well, particularly without any dw/dj and unusually,without the usual major discolouration and other imperfections usually encountered or expected in a children's book of this age. Frederick Sadleir Brereton,CBE,b. 5th August,1872 – d. 12th August,1957, was a decorated soldier and the author of boys' books on heroic deeds conducted in the name of the British Empire.Brereton was a prolific author,in his lifetime,he had written somer 40-odd books.
