192 pages (complete). A VERY COLLECTABLE book. This is a first edition of Andre Brink's first novel. It's publication marked him as a leading member of the so called "Sestigers". It was published when he was lecturing Afrikaans at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. In Afrikaans throughout. The moody dustjacket is intact, whole and resolute. It has wear about the edges and corners. It is lightly scuffed. The board covers are mild. There is shelving wear and some tanning to edges and the spine. Inside the book is signed WYNAND MALAN, the liberal Afrikaans politician, from whose library this book comes. The frontis and end papers have areas of tanning. The edges of the pages are tanned throughout. There are some user marks to the early pages. From thereon the pages are confident, easy, comfortable, clear, assured and certain.
