Brown, Arthur William : Original Pencil Sketch Used as an Illustration in the Saturday Evening Post by Arthur William Brown, circa 1920s-1930s

Original pencil sketch on brown paper by Arthur William Brown. The artwork may also be done in crayon. The paper is stiff like cardstock and appear to have a layer of light brown paper on top. Signed by the artist on front: "To Vernon McKenzie, Arthur William Brown." Copyright information by the Saturday Evening Post appears on a tipped-in piece of paper on back. 21 3/4" x 14 1/2." Drawing is very clean and intact overall. The front of the drawing has a few small stains, minimal age toning, slight edge wear, a tiny chip in upper-left corner not affecting drawing, and surface chipping in lower-right corner that barely affects signature, and a few mark. The back of the drawing has minimal age toning, numbers written in pencil, and paper residue from a formerly tipped-in piece of paper. Very Good. The drawing shows two men conversing in an office. Both of the men wear suits. One of the men wears a top hat and is smoking and gesturing toward the other man as he sits in a chair by a desk. The other man has a pensive expression on his face as he looks down and is standing with one arm resting on his hip while his other hand appears to hold a crumpled piece of paper. Arthur William Brown (1881-1966) was a Canadian artist and illustrator who is best-known for illustrating magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post, American Magazine, and Redbook. Afterward, he became an illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post and other major magazines.
