Collection of 110 original bills and receipts for or by P. O'Brien and Co., a leather manufacturer or currier based in East Boston. In most of the documents, P. O'Brien is the buyer. About seven of the documents are on "P. O'Brien" or "Estate of P. O'Brien" stationery. The latter stationery describes P. O'Brien as "manufacturers of imitation goat, glove grain, grain kid, straight grain, and finished splits." Jas. (James) T. Brennan is named as the P. O'Brien's superintendent. Various dates in the1880s. Documents range in size between about 4" x 3" and 8" x 10." Most of the documents measure about 8 1/4" x 4 1/2." Documents are intact overall but range between Good to Very Good. Most of the receipts appear completely intact but a few may be missing portions. Some documents have significant darkening or smudging. Others have splitting. Most, if not all, have fold lines or creases. All have slight age toning and slight wear to extremities. The entire collection is Very Good. P. O'Brien purchased from many different businesses, most of which are in Boston except for one in Philadelphia. Dorchester is also one of the locations, a neighborhood of Boston. The following are the thirty-five businesses P. O'Brien purchased from, as represented by the documents in this collection: A. B. Bent (currier's oils); Meriam & Morgan Paraffine Company (oils and paraffin wax); Boston Dyewood & Chemical Co. (dyes and extracts); J. A. W. Bird & Co. (dyes, paints, and oils); American Tool and Machine Co. (engineers and machinists); Geo. McQuesten & Co. (timber); Waite, Williams & Co. (oils); P. A. Weeks (tin and sheet iron); John Souther & Co. (excavators and engines); S. L. Hill (carpenter); William Campbell & Co. ("Campbell Bros. & Co." crossed out; boilers); The American Oil Company (machinery and axle grease); Austin Gove & Son (wood, coal, sand, lime, cement, and bricks); Bennett & Rice ("Rice" crossed out in pencil; stair builders, brackets, window frames, and currier's machines and tools); Blacker & Shepard (lumber); E. D. Brooks & Co.; Walworth Manuf'g Co.; Thos. B. Adams & Co. (leather belting); Henry T. Bowers (mason); Dorchester Gas Light Co.; W. Snelling (cutlery and mechanic's tools); P.
