Born at the beginning of the century, Adlard Coles started sailing in 1920,and his experience in cruising and racing since then has made him a world authority on heavy weather sailing.He is equally well known for his pilot books of the Channel Islands and French waters.
In this autobiography he tells of how he acquired these skills and knowledge; picking up victory in the 1950 Transatlantic Race, R.O.R.C points championships in 1947,1957 and 1963,a Royal Institute of Navigation Gold Medal,a Royal Cruising Club Exploration award and an award as Yachtsman of the Year.
