Residue of removed library's card docket and the tipped-in withdrawn+returned history page,to front pastedown and ffe.Part of the dw/dj's precis has been pasted to recto of ffe and the remainder of the dw/dj has had it's front+rear inner flaps trimmed and removed and discarded and the dw/dj has then been sealed to the bds,beneath the eps,in clear plastic/ polythene.Bright,clean,silver background with blue ink illustrations of 2 crystals to upper panel of dw/dj,with blue ink lettering,a publisher's advertisement of other works/titles to rear panel; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners.Top edge darkened, grubbed and spotted,fore-edge brighter and cleaner,but still aged/toned and slightly grubbed/marked; contents bright,tight and clean - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,2nd edn facsimile reprint,2-108pp [paginated] includes Pts I+II comprising 5 chapters and an A-Z dictionary and description of minerals respectively.Plus [unpaginated] title page,dedication,preface to 2nd edn (1892),separate abbreviations and contents lists/tables,errata page,and to rear - addenda,2pp list of subscribers followed by another addenda,10 plates of b/w line illustrations of all the listed,mineral crystals (246 in total],each plate with facing text and finally,2pp blanks. Through the centuries Cornwall and Devon have yielded untold treasures to the mineralogist.Indeed it is doubtful whether any other area of comparable size in the Old World has afforded them in such number and variety.In 1871,this book was the first book to be devoted to the subject. Despite the passage of years,Collins' Handbook is still not out-moded and is regarded as the 'vade mecum' of amateur mineralogists and prospectors in the South-West.
