It is only the minor faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall. Despite that it is still an exceptional copy for its cleanliness,brightness and lack of other detracting faults.                        Author's 2nd novel of the 'Warlord'series,and immediately follows the events described in 'The Winter King' - see my book ID rja   .In that bbok the King of Dumnonia and High King of Britain,Uther,dies and is succeeded by his lame baby grandson,Mordred.Arthur,a bastard son of Uther's,is appointed one of Mordred's guardians and in time becomes the most important of those guardians.Arthur is determined to bring peace to the warring British kingdoms. 'The Winter King' ended with Arthur winning the great battle at Lugg Vale.Mordred's throne is safe,the southern British kingdoms are allied and Arthur,though not a king himself,is their undisputed leader.  Here,Guinevere carries Arthur's child; Lancelot is to marry Ceinwyn.And then in the spring,a march against the Saxons,one last great slaughter and Arthur will have won his dream of everlasting peace,and be able to rule with his band of warriors,who have the hand of friendship with each other.                                  But Arthur has forgotten the Gods.He believes in the law,the Gods love chaos and the Gods will win.
