Cotnareaunu, owner since 1934 of the Parisian journal "Le Figaro," had used the resources of the New York Public Library to gather this anthology of articles from the years 1934-1940. "Le Figaro" had voluntarily closed when the Nazis over-ran France, "rather than daily betray the truth, and the confidence of its readers." This anthology marks the re-opening of the 118-year-old newspaper. Among the contributors are Cocteau, Colette, Bergson, Duhamel, Mauriac, Maurois, Valery, Daudet, Giraudoux, Guermantes, Bernard Shaw, and Maritain. International affairs, politics, arts and letters, theatre, music and dance are included. Darius Milhaud writes on the Music of the Cinema; Ambroise Vollard on Gauguin.
