The duties are listed as follows: "The duties of the Historical Survey Commission as set forth in the statutes are to make a survey of historical materials within the state and to compile and publish a record of such survey; to study the architectural history of the California missions and to prepare plans and models of the same; to investigate and determine the site of the Battle of San Pasqual and prepare a history of said battle; to compile and prepare for publication a record of California's part in the Great War. In addition to these specified duties the Commission has been asked by members of the legislature, state officials and citizens to take upon itself other miscellaneous functions which usually pertain to an historical and archives commission.".
