Folio. A RARE FIRST ENGLISH TRANSLATION. Incomplete WITH TITLE AND PAGES UP TO PAGE 26 LACKING. .27-779, [viii]pp. The complete volume would have 870 quarter page woodcuts to the text. Apart from those prints lacking on the missing on the first 26 pages the rest of the volume is complete. This rare first edition in English used mostly the original woodcuts used in the previous Flemish and French editions and were probably cut byArnaud Nicolai after Pieter van der Borcht. Half-calf later binding. Nice tight copy lacking the first leaves up to page 27 but complete text and woodcuts otherwise. Some evidence of damp to the upper margins but no loss. Index at the rear with worn margins but index complete, [The lmissing title-page would rear _"A niewe herball or historie of plantes : wherein is contayned the whole discourse and perfect description of all sortes of herbes and plantes: their divers & sundry kindes: their straunge figures, fashions, and shapes: their names, natures, operations, and vertues: and that not onely of those which are here growing in ...
