A rare and decorative winter scene of mid 19th Toronto life. A number of horse-drawn sleighs are on the ice in the foreground with the rich and affluent engaging in winter sports in the background. In the background along the shore are depicted docks and residential buildings. J.T. Downman, a topographical English artist, served as a lieutenant in the 83rd Regiment and dedicated the present print to his fellow officers.
