EDGAR WALLACE : Unofficial Dispatches

Hutchinson & Co., London [1901].

First edition in the first state binding with gilt-stamped holograph lettering to the upper board (the second state binding finds no lettering on the upper board). 8vo. viii, 327pp. Brown cloth lettered in gold at the spine and upper board (both the spine and board lettering opting for a title spelling which differs from that of the title page: 'Unofficial Despatches'). Double-sided frontispiece. The binding cracked at the title hinge, and the title page and one text leaf (p.79) tender and only just holding. Some bruising to the backstrip ends and a little chafing to the outer gutters. Free endpaper margins lightly toned. About a good copy, very crisp internally. The author's first prose work, preceded by three collection of verse: letters from the Anglo-Boer War, some of which were originally printed in the 'Daily Mail' (where Wallace worked as a war correspondent).. Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover
