George Cary Eggleston (1839-1911) was an American author and brother of historian and fellow author Edward Eggleston (1837-1902). George Eggleston wrote an autobiographical series about his time as a Confederate soldier during the Civil War for the Atlantic Monthly. The serialized account was eventually published in book form as A Rebel's Recollections. A Man of Honor is a character study that follows the life of Mr. Robert Pagebrook. After the Civil War, Pagebrook, from New York, visits his relatives in Virginia. After going through financial hardship, Pagebrook tries to prove to his family that he is "a man of honor.". Book.
