Latin text on verso. Seco created his manuscript map of Portugal in the mid-16th century, which continued to serve as the basis for mapmakers until well into the 17th century. Notably, north is to the right of the map; several ships, compass roses, a sea deity and the coats of arms of the Algarve and of Portugal decorate the Atlantic ocean at the top of the image; and the title vignette features two Portuguese scientists studying a globe.
