Binding is tight. A few small marks on the covers. A Fine copy. John Ericsson (1803-1889) was a Swedish-American engineer and inventor. He was a pioneer in the field of new technology who helped with the designs and constructions of locomotives and ships. Among his projects and inventions were the steam locomotive Novelty; the first screw-propelled steam-frigate, USS Princeton; and the first ironclad warship with a rotating gun turret, the USS Monitor, which helped save the Union naval blockading squadron from the Confederate CSS Virginia in the Battle of Hampton Roads during the Civil War. The following is quoted from a front paragraph titled, "Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 25": "Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That there shall be compiled, printed with illustrations and bound, as may be directed by the Joint Committee on Printing, twelve thousand two hundred copies of the proceedings, and such other matter as may be relevant thereto, in connection with the unveiling of the statue of John Ericsson, in Washington, District of Columbia, May 29, 1926, of which three thousand copies shall be for the use of the Senate, seven thousand copies for the use of the House of Representatives, two thousand copies to be delivered to the John Ericsson Memorial Committee, and the remaining two hundred copies shall be bound in full morocco and delivered to the John Ericsson Memorial Committee for distribution to the descendants of John Ericsson and such other persons as said committee may designate."
