Minuscule punctures in the left margin not affecting text. Earl Richard Grenville-Temple (1711-1779) was a British politician who is perhaps best-known for his association with his brother-in-law, William Pitt, who was also a politician and later became the Prime Minister of Great Britain (1708-1778). This is Grenville-Temple's response to an anonymous letter that had been published on July 20, 1765 in the Public Advertiser. The letter is reprinted in this pamphlet and may be considered libelous in nature, in part because it criticizes and publishes revealing information about British government officials whose names have been partially redacted; one of the named officials appears to be Pitt. Grenville-Temple's reply is printed in larger print over the facsimile letter and reads in part, "Whether any such letter was ever written in private correspondence I know not, neither do I care. I should judge from the publication, as well as from the stile and tendency of the performance, that it made its first appearance where I have read it, and was originally designed for a more extensive communication, than to convey, with an air of authority, misinformation under the shew of intelligence to one friend in the country, or his circle of acquaintance.". Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
