Signature on beige document in brown ink by General Charles Grey. August 15, 1836. 8" x 12 3/4." One page. Document includes typed text and handwritten portions. Signed "Howick" at the bottom of the document. Document has a "J & M Miller 1830" watermark. Paper, text, signature, and handwriting are very clean and intact. General Charles Grey (1804-1879) was the son of Charles Grey (1764-1845; 2nd Earl Grey, Viscount of Howick, and Baron Grey). In addition to his military career, he was private secretary to his father, Prince Albert, and Queen Victoria. In this document issued from the War Office, General Charles Grey signs that the Paymaster General is to return to the Treasury funds used by the "9th Lancers" which are now deemed to be unacceptable costs..
