General Charles Grey (1804-1879) was the son of Charles Grey (1764-1845; 2nd Earl Grey, Viscount of Howick, and Baron Grey). In addition to his military career, he was private secretary to his father, Prince Albert, and Queen Victoria. In this document issued from the War Office, General Charles Grey signs that the Paymaster General is to return to the Treasury funds used by the "9th Lancers" which are now deemed to be unacceptable costs..
