[Originally and first published Copenhagen,1941 in a Ltd No'd + ARTIST signed edn of 500 on special paper with 50 b/w line illus +2 in colour,and then a 2nd edn issue of 2500 - 6500 ,1943 and further subsequent issues up to 4th in that same year.This undated issue is the 7th edn with only the b/w drawings done in pen and pencil.] VG. No owner inscrptn and no date,but indigenous,contemporary bookseller's b/w printed paper price label tipped in to top edge/corner of rear wrap (hft 16,50 + ib, 19,50).Bright, fairly clean and with minimal grubbing to pale green/blue illustrated paper covers; front cover with a b/w nude couple caressing line drawing with black lettering,black letters to spine/ backstrip,rear cover with black line drawing; with negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no major nicks or tears.A couple of inevitable but tiny splits to vertical fore-edges of both front and rear covers,due to being the only edges of the covers extending beyond the text block edges - yapped? Bright,crisp,intact spine/ backstrip complete without damage,any loss or separation from the glued signatures.Top edges trimmed,slightly toned with some minimal, sporadic dust-soiling flecks or foxing(?),fore- edges cleaner and untrimmed (deckled - though some pages' edges in some signatures are trimmed),bottom edges similarly affected; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound without marks or blemishes.DENMARK,slim 8vo wraps,7th edn,128pp [unpaginated] includes half-title+title pages and 62 intimate b/w line drawings in either pen or pencil - all by Ernst Hansen - and without text or caption and all with blank page reverses. An exceptional example in a surprising collectible state/condition,given the book's age (circa 1950s?) and ephemeral paper construction. Ernst Hansen born 0ct 29,1892,Denmark - died May 8,1968,Copenhagen,Denmark. He was a Danish painter,draughtsman,illustrator and graphic artist.He also undertook extended expeditions to Greenland and Iceland and painted his impressions.In addition,he also painted female nudes,animal pictures and drawings and landscapes,but he also illustrated books on Danish folk songs and poetry. Trained as a journeyman painter,but even before he had completed this training,he continued his career at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen,where he was admitted in 1910.He worked as a draughtsman for Politiken and Berlingske Tidende and as a book illustrator. Having also accompanying the explorer Knud Rasmussen on one of his expeditions to Greenland in 1930-32,Ernst Hansen took charge of the illustrations in the explorer’s books.A much sought-after graphic artist and illustrator.
