Hemingway's fifth contribution to Collier's, this one cabled from France, in which he presents a first-hand account of Allied troops preparing for battle with the Germans. Issue also includes The Wounds Of Paris, by Martha Gellhorn (married to Hemingway at the time) who contributed from Paris where she was on assignment for Collier's as a war correspondent. In this piece, Gellhorn talks of the underground passages at Ivry, once used by the French as fortifications, now used as a prison by the Nazis, and of the torture cells around the city, including graphic descriptions of several methods of torture.
