Original publisher's black and white engraved nautical chart showing two surveys; one survey shows San Diego Bay ("San Diego Entrance") while the other shows the approach to San Diego Harbor from Los Coronados or the Coronado Islands ("General Sketch of San Diego Bay and Los Coronados"). Chart with margins measures 15 3/4" x 17"; actual chart area measures 12 7/8" x 11 3/4." Chart is very clean and intact except for slight darkening and repairs on the front and back along the fold lines. Two vertical fold lines and one horizontal fold line. Repairs on the front are limited to the margins; most of the repairs are on the back. Titles are printed in the left area within each survey. A printed vertical line extending from the top and bottom of the compass rose demarcates the boundaries of the two surveys. In the upper-left corner is "No. 45." In the upper-right corner is "Electrotype Copy No. 1 by G. Mathiot U.S.C.S." "Redd. Drng. [reduction? drawing] by F. Herbst" is printed in the lower-left corner. "Engg. by S. Siebert, G. M. McCoy & E. Yeager" is printed in the lower-right corner. Below the neatline are four scales of distance in statute and nautical miles for both surveys (two pairs each). Chart include soundings for the survey of the "San Diego Entrance." Also included are sailing directions and brief notes on soundings and tides. Natural features such as rivers, mountains, and forests are shown. Point Loma has the letter "a" which shows the proposed site of a lighthouse.. Map/Print. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
