Original written letter signed by Oliver Wendell Holmes. 4 1/2 X 7 inches. 1 page. Dated Sept. 22, 1894. With engraving of Holmes, circa 1879. Holmes (1809-1894) was an American essayist and poet. He was also a physician, lecturer and a member of the Fireside Poets. In this brief letter, Holmes tanks a correspondent for sending him a book ("Pretty Little Quarto") and for quoting from his writing. This letter was written two weeks before Holmes' death on October 7, 1894. Letter has been folded but is clean. The engraving of Holmes measures 4 1/2 X 7 1/2 inches. Lower corner is slightly folded.
