Octavo. 2 volumes in 1: [4], xxix, [1], 206 pp.; xvi, 448 pp. Illustrations include a lithographed portrait of Honigberger, a map, 16 numbered plates, including a large foldout tinted lithographed view of "The Fortress of the City of Lahore," where the author served as Physician to the Sikh Court," in Volume 1, and 31 numbered botanical plates in Volume 2. Ex library with only minimal markings: a stamp on title-page and page 50 of Volume 1. Complete text, which is clean and largely unopened, though the paper is occasionally brittle, and all plates are present. It is being offered as is because the binding has failed and it needs rebinding: publisher's original cloth boards present but the backstrip is lacking, and the bookblock is split in multiple places. A fascinating account of early 19th century Asia and a wealth of botanical and medical information as seen through the eyes of a pharmacist's thirty-five years in Asia "...travelling from my native country (Transylvania) by way of Levant, Egypt, Arabia and Persia, to India, residing several years in the Punjab...at a period when these countries were little known to Europeans."
