circa.1950. Publicity photo (4 1/4 x 6 1/8 inch) in b/w. Lena Horne (b.1917) was an african-american singer/actress most famous for the song "Stormy Weather". Was in the chorus line at the Cotton Club in 1933 along with singing at night clubs and with bands. MGM signed her in 1942 and had her in the film PANAMA HATTIE singing 'Stormy Weather' and later CABIN IN THE SKY (1943). Due to state laws forbidding interracial relationships on the screen she had her roles cut from films and so the studio had problems using her in films. During the 1950s she was blacklisted because of her civil rights activity. 1960s through 1980s she worked nightclubs and TV along with issuing records and winning several Grammys. She also has a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine. Binding: No Binding
