Horwitz, Ralph : Forum & Liberalism : Passages of Protest 1961 - 1964

Ralph Horwitz, 1996

Inscribed by Author(s)269 pages (complete). 'Forum' was one of a tranche of so-called liberal periodicals that fell under John Vorster and H F Verwoerd's heels. Their voices of protest and liberal political argument were extinguished through political and through economic means (as in the case of 'Forum'). Horwitz, who has republished some remarkable articles from the periodical in this book, wrote a particularly affecting Jeremiad in the final issue: ". In such a Republic there is little place for the independent, small periodical of protest. Thirty years of protest are thus at an end. In the unjust society that claims the patriotism of White South Africa, Forum's kind of humanism can no longer live." This copy is one of a limited edition of 300. It is inscribed to the iconic South African businessman, Raymond Ackerman (dated: Oct 3, 1996). In turn there is a presentation plate marking the donation of this book from Ackerman to the Gradual School of Business, University of Cape Town. A tight, neat copy. There are some mild handling and thumbing marks. The pages are tight, clean, clear, assured, generous in spirit, competent. fk. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Soft cover. Jacket: No Jacket
