A Very Good copy. A scenic viewbook of California missions and a few missions in other western states. Predominantly illustrations, most of which are full-page, with minimal text. Includes a concise introduction and brief directions to some of the missions. The following California missions are shown in the printed photographs: Mission San Diego, Mission San Luis Rey, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Mission San Gabriel, Mission San Fernando Rey, Mission San Buenaventura, Mission Santa Barbara, Mission San Luis Obispo, Mission San Antonio de Padua, Mission San Juan Bautista, and Mission San Francisco de Asis. The following missions, not in California, are also shown in the printed photos: Mission San Francisco de la Espada (San Antonio, Texas) and Mission San Xavier del Bac (Tucson, Arizona). There are also a few printed photos of churches and Pueblo dwellings. George Wharton James (1858-1923) was an American author, editor, journalist, and photographer.
