Engraved title-page by G.I. Haupt after Gottfried Pfautz. Full-page portraits of Luther, engraved calenders, engraved documents, braudsides, etc. Several sheets contain emblem books and other religious works that have been dissected and mounted.
Few plates with damp marks, some folds reinforced and some margins repaired.; some tears repaired. Tipped in is a related engraving by Johan Ulrich Krausen. A beautifully illustrated volume of these rare braudsides and smaller copperplate series celebrating the 200th year Jubilee of the Augsburg Confession. Apparently no two copies collate the same and are made up by each individual owner expressing his or her own interests. Some of the large engravings are very impressive. There are two full-length portraits of Luther; two very large plates by J. Jacob Kleinschmidt depicting the conversion of the natives by the Danish missions in Malabar with a map of Southern India and Ceylon at the bottom of the plates and a view of Augsburg in one along with various allegorical figures (These two decorative important broadsides appear occasionally on the market separately); illustrations of the Confession presented to Charles V; large folding plates of baroque alters; engraved calendar for 1731 with printed text at the bottom in red and black. There are also complete sets of engravings printed and some mounted on single sheets depicting biblical histories or emblem books; “Aula Mariana cum Palatio episcopalism Augustano” in oblong 8vo; all cut and mounted; also a 16 engraved series of emblem book in 8vo “Testis temporum, lux veritatis” by Elias Baeck. Twenty half page engravings (two to a page). Fine full-page engravings depicting groups playing music, biblical scenes, and the last three engravings are of very elaborate festival arches that were probably erected for the festival. There are a series of engraved letters with illustrations of invitations or events that appear to have been made to be folded up with engravings printed in various angles. The engravers include G. Rogg, B.S. Setlzky, Baumgartner, J.C. Kolb, A . Schimdt, J.F. Bock, Andreas Maschenbar, and others.
The OCLC locates copies with 32 leaves, 47 leavs, 23 leaves and a microfilm with 65 leaves. It is not clear if these collations are counting engravings or single sheets. The publisher obviously let the buyers pick and choose from his stock. (Pfister 3964 (without collation); no in Berlin catalog, Lipperheide or Lanckoronska-Oehler.
