A six-page introduction precedes twelve essays on art and artists (Picasso, Léger, Bratby, Hepworth, Klee, Henry Moore, Cri Richards &c), most of which were originally printed in the 'New Statesman' but are here considerably revised and expanded to form a consistent narrative.
