This report contains a list and statement relating to military pensions awarded to veterans of the War of 1812. A brief reprinted letter by Secretary of War John C. Calhoun introduces this list and statement. The list is organized by state and shows the names of each of the veterans granted half-pay pensions following the war. The list also includes veterans' ranks, corresponding pension certificate numbers, "guardians of the heirs of deceased soldiers," and the monthly pension rate in dollars. The statement that follows lists the names of deceased veterans whose pensions have awarded to their widows and children. Like the previous list, this statement provides similar information such as veterans' ranks, their state or territory, monthly pension rate in dollars, and the dollar amount by one year and five years. In a note on back, Paymaster General Robert Brent clarifies that the statement "does not include the names of officers or soldiers who fell at the battle of Tippecanoe (Nov. 7th, 1811) nor does it include those soldiers who enlisted for five years, or during the war, and whose children (by their guardians) have relinquished the bounty land and received the half-pay pension provided for by the 2d section of the act of April 16th, 1816." The act of April 16, 1816 extended pension allowance to widows and children (under the age of 16) of soldiers who had died of their wounds received in service but after discharge. The act was similar to the one of June 7, 1794 which had similar stipulations but only granted pensions to widows and children of soldiers who had died of their wounds while still in service.. Book.
