John O'London's Weekly and The Outline - Saturday, April 12, 1930 to Saturday, October 4, 1930

George Newnes Ltd., London, 1930

Bound copies of the popular literary magazine at the height of its success. The first and end pages have wear. Page 2 of the first copy included in this set records this extraordinary gathering of the Society of Authors: James Barrie chaired, Bernard Shaw, H G Wells, and Arnold Bennett were all present! There is a record too of this incident at Harrow when a expert swordsman challenged the boys that he would ". cut an apple in half on the head of any boy who would be courageous enough to kneel before him . there was a scuffle and a rush from the topmost benches, where the fourth form boys were seated, and before you could say 'knife' a very small, red-headed boy had usurped [the Head Monitor's] position. And that was Winston Churchill." The binder boards have wear, marks and scuffing. The cloth spine too is worn and marked. It is secure and strong. Aside from that mentioned above, the pages are eloquent, clean, clear, certain, comfortable and utterly engaging. fk. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket
