Top edge dust marked and edges and preliminary leaves lightly spotted. A very good copy in dusty and a little chafed and handled dust wrapper, with some tanning to spine panel. The author's extremely uncommon first book, drawing upon the then 21-year-old author's experiences in the merchant navy. He later volunteered for the International Brigades, fighting in the Spanish Civil War alongside his friend John Cornford, and afterwards served as an aircraft support mechanic for the R.A.F. in Burma and India..
