Johnny Gruelle, an American artist, political cartoonist, and a writer of children's books, is the creator of the Raggedy Ann doll and character. Gruelle worked with P.F. Volland Company; the first Raggedy Ann story came out in 1918. From 'The Cheery Scarecrow', 1929.
