Original letter handwritten in black ink on light beige lined paper. Datelined April 29 (or 27), 1864 in Ione, California. 5" x 7 3/4." Two pages (one full page and a half page on back). Letter is clean and intact overall but has a few creases, faint dampstaining along top edge, and two chips in upper-right corner and top edge with possible repair (top edge is fragile). A Very Good copy. J. C. Johnston writes F. Hull asking him to get various carpentry hardware from the list constituting most of this letter. Among the items requested are hinges, drawer locks, brads, screws, sandpaper, and furniture varnish. Johnston asks Hull to go to the store, Van Winkle & Dunkins, to get the items. Johnston also writes that if Hull is not immediately returning to Ione, the bill should be sent via stage.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
