Membership application on beige paper with printed text and handwriting and signatures in both pencil and black ink. "Proposition for Membership" printed at the top on front. Signed by the applicant, Delia M. Jones, in pencil on the front. On the back are the signatures of two committee members, T. N.[?] Taylor and John Serra, and the secretary, Ruby Taylor, which approve Jones's membership at the Golden Pansy Rebekah Lodge, No. 331. Datelined "Rail [R]oad Flat, Cal., Feb. 7, 1913." 5 3/8" x 8 3/8." Printed on both sides. Application, handwriting, and signatures are very clean and intact. The application has a fill-in-the-blank format on the front. Jones filled in the date and completed the following applicant information: "... I respectfully request admission into your Lodge by Initiation .... My age is 42 years. My residence is Rail Road Flat. My occupation is Housewife. My place of business is Rail Road Flat. I was born in Rail Road Flat." A printed statement, "My health is good.," is approved with the applicant's signature. The following information is also filled in on the front: the "witness" is Ruby Taylor; Jones was "recommended by" Mary Serra; Jones "refers to" Lillie Taylor and John Serra; and the members on the "Committee of Investigation" are Thomas Taylor, John Serra, and T. [or H.] Z. Towle. The International Association of Rebekah Assemblies is a Masonic organization that was originally a female auxiliary of the International Organization of Odd Fellows (I. O. O. F.), but men can now join as members. The original Rebekahs were the wives and daughters of Odd Fellow members, but in 1894, women over the age of eighteen could apply for membership even if they were not related to an Odd Fellow. Rail Road Flat is a historic mining town in Calaveras County, California that was settled by gold seekers in 1849. It was named after the mule-drawn ore cars once used to carry waste rock to and from digging sites.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
