8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Excellent archive of handwritten correspondence for Joseph A.du Four, spanning the early 1900s through World War I, 30 items in all tells of his battles in Germany in World War I, his medical release from the front. Du Four was in two wars in short amount of time relating how when he put on his blue uniform that it had been awhile since he put it on. The archive includes the handwritten letters, what covers there are, photograph cabinet card of him in his early years. Snippets and details include; how even though he was almost 60 when he was in South Africa he wants to continue having a crack at the square headed Germans again! It is his second war with the red flag…writing from H.A. Camp. His enlistment with the Rand Light Infantry writing to family back in Pennsylvania from Africa...he is one of the few that has gotten his Queen Victoria medal; ghow he was in the Boer War as a gunner in heavy artillery in Cape Town; writes of the Lusitania; the dirty work they pulled [the Germans] sunk that ship; he about the 'd-bombs' from the sky...and some of our boys are under the ground because of their work. There are also letters of him from Stellen Bosch, South Africa. He also notes how he used to wear the blue uniform in Pennsylvania; how he has been up in the French Congo; a Capt. Russell is mentioned; writes of the surrender of the Boer general; writes of the red coats of the King of England fighting from the front for him. Much more including letters from Greylingstad in 1909.. Book Condition: Very Good
