This large scale and rare map is composed of two large sheets of Western and Eastern sheets. This is the Western part of the map, the Eastern part is lacking. At the top It has the inset view: \"View of the Grand Portage on Lake Superior\". Dedication statement to the Prince Regent is at lower left. Roads, cos, districts and relief are shown. The map is extraordinarily elegant and very detailed, Bouchette\'s work as surveyor general must have instilled an obsession with the accuracy and fineness in him. The engraving was done by the Walker firm in London

Detailed and important map of the Upper Canada together with the American Midwest and the Old Northwest, great lakes regions. The various frontier forts are shown, as are Indian villages, white settlements, etc. It includes numerous interesting notations particularly relating to navigation in the Great Lakes and portages throughout the region. With an inset view of the Grand Portage on Lake Superior appears at the top of the map.


This map is part of an atlas of three maps on 13 sheets: the large map of Lower Canada on ten sheets ( size 133x307); the map of Upper and Lower Canada on two sheets ,( size 76x123); and the single sheet map of Gaspe (size 40x48). These maps were intended to accompany Bouchette\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Topographical Description of Lower Canada

The detail and graphic elegance of these large maps are the equal (or perhaps the superior) of any of the contemporary maps of such a large scale.
