Original color map of the Isle of Arran and the Lower Clyde, Scotland. Map colors are light green and brown. No date, circa 1890s. 13 1/2" x 6 1/2." Map has a few vertical fold lines, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles and slight age toning. A Very Good copy. Map shows Arran at center with the Kintyre peninsula to the west. Kilbrannan Sound, Bute Sound, and the Firth of Clyde are labeled on the River Clyde. Cities, routes, and natural features are shown. Many of the geographic features are labeled. Scale of distance in English Miles and neatline included. Engraved by W. & A. K. Johnston, an engraving firm founded in 1826 by brothers William Johnston (1802-1888) and Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) in Scotland. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
