Original color map of the Dumfries and Galloway district in Scotland. Map has colors of light blue-green and brown. Dark orange lines highlight routes. No date, circa 1890s. 14 1/2" x 7 1/2." Map has vertical fold lines and a horizontal fold line, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles, slight age toning, and some tearing in left margin (barely affects printed map area). A Very Good copy. Map shows the town of Dumfries and the region of Galloway. Cities, routes, and natural features are shown. Wigtown Bay and Solway Firth are shown at the bottom. Scale of distance in miles and neatline included. Engraved by W. & A. K. Johnston, an engraving firm founded in 1826 by brothers William Johnston (1802-1888) and Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) in Scotland. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
