Original color map of Skye and surrounding coasts and islands in Scotland. Map is in black-and-white but has light green to represent water and dark orange lines to highlight travel routes. No date, circa 1890s. 10 1/2" x 14 1/2." Map has vertical and horizontal fold lines, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles, slight age toning, a small closed tear (measuring about 1" from bottom edge) affecting 1/2" of map, and possible clipping limited to left margin. A Very Good copy. Map shows the Isle of Skye and nearby coasts and islands. Cities, routes, and natural features are shown. "Scale of Miles," neatline, and legend denoting "Main Roads" included. Engraved by W. & A. K. Johnston, an engraving firm founded in 1826 by brothers William Johnston (1802-1888) and Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) in Scotland. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map.
