When novelist and scriptwriter James Kennaway died in 1968 at the age of forty, he and his wife Susan were as close as they had ever been during their remarkable marriage,though a few years before she admits she had despised him deeply.In 1963 James met David,a young novelist,whose company he described to his wife with even more than characteristic enthusiasm.Jame compulsively played with people's lives - particularly the lives of those close to him.In playing with Susan's and David's, the one thing he never dreamed was that they would fall in love with one another. When a revealing half-written letter was found,James flew into a rage and sped off to Italy with all the money at hand, leaving Susan and their children up an Austrian mountain.
