Publisher's original dark blue cloth boards with blocked/stamped bordered design of Scottish flora to border's corners and two pairs of crossed claymores - a pair to each vertical border's edge - upper board,also with bright, crisp,blocked gilt armorial/heraldic design (upright unicorns each holding a different Scottish flag/pennant (one a saltire and the other a lion) and supporting a shield with Scottish lion emblem in centre of it,with English+Latin motto 'In Defence' & 'Nemo Me Impune Lacesset') to centre of upper board. Slightly dulled blocked gilt letters to a slightly darkened spine/backstrip which is also minimally bumped with reciprocal creasing to both head+foot of same.Both pastedowns and feps slightly affected with offset foxing.Rear board plain,not tooled or stamped,but bright and clean,all corners minimally bumped with some miniscule rubbing and miniscule fraying - otherwise negligible shelf-wear to edges.Top edges either heavily aged/toned or dust-soiled,with some minimal,sporadic foxing/ spotting,fore-edges much brighter and cleaner and unaffected with foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight,clean,generally solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - unread?
