Extremities slightly rubbed; archival tape reinforcing to upper hinge; a little foxing. Very good condition. (SABIB 3, p. 346; Mendelssohn II, pp. 31, 32 [3rd edition]) '"Robert Moffat was born on 21st December 1795, at Ormiston in East Lothian," and starting life as a gardener became greatly attracted to a religious career, soon after which he conceived the idea of becoming a missionary, and entering the service of the London Missionary Society he sailed for the Cape on January 13, 1817. ... On March 20, 1870, Moffat preached for the last time at Kuruman, and three months later sailed for England, where Mrs. Moffat, whose health had broken down, died on January 10, 1871. Mr. Moffat was received in the highest circles with great kindness, and immense admiration was expressed for his useful and able career. He settled at Brixton, and in spite of his age lived an active and vigorous life, which terminated on August 9, 1883, at the age of 88.' - Mendelssohn
