It is only the exterior faults described that prevents a slightly higher overall grading. Despite that,it really is still an exceptional example and a welcome addition to Mortimer's collection of works.                             'The Sound of Trumpets' represents the triumphant completion of a political trilogy that began with 'Paradise Postponed' and 'Titmuss Regained',providing a wonderfully entertaining and alert view of the comedy of modern politics.                                  It's three decades since local boy Leslie Titmuss, son of a humble brewery clerk, first entered Parliament as the member for the constituency of Hartscombe and Westfield South and began his rise to the very height of government during the Thatcher years.Lord Titmuss,of First Baron Skurfield as he has become,is still a figure with formidable influence in the constituency, but now the Conservative government, uder a new leader,is in trouble, and it faces a difficult by-election at Hartscombe after the extraordinary death of the sitting Tory M.P. - his body found floating one summer morning in his swimming pool, handcuffed and clad in a bikini.                            Terry Flitton, the New Labour candidate,is confident of victory.Armed with a mobile phone and a beautiful young wife called Kate who abhors smoking, hunting and meat-eating in equal measure,he feels the tide is turning his way.But even he is surprised to receive a call from Lord Titmuss himself suggesting a highly confidential meeting. It seems thatTitmuss knows a greatdeal about Terry and quite a lot about the late and unmourned M.P. Just as surprising to Terry is the sudden attraction he feels for fifty-year-old,smoking, drinking,love-making Old Labour Agnes, who seems both to like him and to believe he can bring a bit of Socialism to Rapstone Valley.Very soon Terry finds himself caught between expediency and principle, power and passion - with events skidding so far out of control that he is scarcely able to make the decisions himself.      Please contact seller, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!  N.B.
