Studied at the Slade Schoo of Fine Art (1919- 23),the Central School of Art (1921-23) and Westminster School of Art (1926-27).Married Norman Thomas Janes (b.1892-d.1980) in 1925.Some of her earlier designs were for book endpapers printed from wood and lino blocks.From 1926 to 1930,she and her husband produced a number of wood engravings on musical subjects - depictions of scenes from the lives of composers - for pianola rolls decoration,published by Aeolian Company. Except in her early endpaper designs,she used the white line technique of wood engraving, reflecting her admiration for the work of Thomas Bewick.All her book illustrations depict scenes from nature and the countryside.Later in her career,she worked in watercolour and made coloured linocuts.Member of Manchester Academy of Fine Art (1925); elected ARE (1940),FRE (1946),SWE (1952).
