Palmer, Milton J : Two Autograph Letters, Signed. Milton J. Palmer

Two autograph letters (8 1/2 x 11 inch) on 'Private Office' Palmer House stationary. Also one letter, signed E.P.A., Chicago 1903 (?), two pages. Milton J. Palmer (1824-1905) was the brother and business partner of Potter Palmer (1826-1902) was a very successful and wealthy early Chicago businessman known for both his retail and real estate development undertakings. The Palmer Hotel in Chicago is named after him. In both the letters Milton Palmer writes to his sister Ann Palmer Couchman, living in Schoharie, NY, shortly after the death of Potter Palmer. In the first letter he writes about "finishing store and making many changes in tenants." In the second letter he appears miffed by a slight from his sister-in-law: "Potter's remains are placed in the sarcofegas (sic) today in Graceland I learned this morning. I was not notified, was not wanted. This is not right, is it." The third letter is addressed to "dear Auntie" and signed only "E.A.P." It is written on the personal stationery of Milton J. Palmer. It too touches on Palmer's death: "Was informed by the Marble people they have Mrs Palmer's order for the monument. (?) This firm wish Papa's order. I myself don't think much of their work; however, I reckon her design is perfect." All three in fine condition with evidence of folding, along with 'Palmer House' envelopes used in sending the letters.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine. Binding: No Binding
