Erik Paulsen (1912-?) lived in Bergen, Norway and immigrated to the United States in about 1940. In the U.S., he lived in New York City, likely in Brooklyn. He was part of a Norwegian social club in New York called Bondeungdomslaget through which he participated in track and skating activities. In the mid-1940s (possibly in 1946), Paulsen moved to San Francisco, and by 1948, he was living in Seattle where he operated an importing company called Scandinavian Corners, Scandinavian Importing. He continued in this line of work into at least the early 1970s. Of the 270 photos, about 100 show Paulsen living in Norway in the 1930s, and about sixty-five show him living in the New York City area from about 1940-1945 and participating in outdoor activities at Lake Telemark, New Jersey. The following are some of the subjects depicted in the photos: portraits of family and friends in various indoor and outdoor locations; Paulsen participating in recreational shooting, a boat ride on the Jupiter in Bergen; a photo postcard of a sled; people swimming and horseback-riding; Paulsen doing the high jump for track and field; Golden Gate Bridge; a child's first birthday; the Continental Divide at Berthoud Pass; South Bend, Indiana; Niagara Falls; Long Island; and wedding portraits..
