Original billhead printed and typed in black ink on light beige paper. Also includes handwriting in pencil. Black-and-white illustration printed at top. Datelined July 5, 1933 in San Francisco, California. 7" x 8 1/2." Billhead is very clean and intact except for light age toning, a few horizontal and vertical fold lines and small wrinkles, and a few spots of rusting and pinholes at top. A Very Good copy. An original billhead from Payne's Bolt Works of San Francisco, California to L. M. Martini of Kingsburg, California. Martini purchased three line items, "1-1/4 x 57'-6" Turnbuckle Rods," "1 x 7'-6" Rods," and "3/4" Cut Washers." The subtotal for the items was $50.00. Martini appeared to receive a discount of $1.00, so the grand total was $49.00. Red stamp shows this bill was paid. The printed header reads, "Established 1871; Incorporated December 17th, 1888; The Only Carriage Bolt Works on the Pacific Coast, Manufacturers of Iron & Steel Set Screws, Cap Screws, Studs & All Kinds of Bolts & Nuts, Southeast Corner Howard & Main Streets, San Francisco, Cal." The president of the company is named as G. L. Payne. Payne's Bolt Works was founded by Thomas Payne (1845-1907). As noted on the billhead, Payne's Bolt Works was established in 1871 and incorporated in 1888. Payne first came to California in 1861. He became a successful businessman from this company.. Ephemera.
