This compilation of Lower-Canada laws contains the following Acts of protecting Jewish rights: “Acte pour declarer que les personnes qui professent le Judaïsme, ont le benefice de tous les droits et privileges des autres sujets de Sa majeste en cette Province” [An Act to declare persons professing the Jewish religion entitled to all the rights and privileges of the other subjects of His Majesty in this Province]. 1 William IV, Chapter 57 (Lower-Canada) , 1832. Abbreviated version. Page 33. This landmark Act declared that all persons professing the Jewish Religion, being natural born British subjects inhabiting and residing in Lower Canada, were entitled to the full rights and privileges of the other subjects of His Majesty. Also: “Acte pour etendre certains privileges y mentionnes aux personnes professant le Judaïsme, et pour obvier a certains inconveniens auxquels pourraient etre autrement exposes d’autres Sujets de Sa Majeste” [An Act to extend certain Privileges therein mentioned to persons professing the Jewish Religion and for the obviating certain inconveniences to which others of His Majesty’s Subjects might otherwise be exposed]. 9 George IV, Chapter 75 (Lower-Canada) , 1831. This Act declared the right of Jews to have fit and proper places of worship and burial, and the right of Rabbis to keep registers of births, marriages, deaths, and burials of congregation members.
